DAY CARE CENTER

“Day Care Center – A Safe Start for Every Child”

In Nepal’s brick kiln communities, young children face unsafe environments, malnutrition, and limited early learning opportunities—challenges that restrict both their present wellbeing and future potential. To break this cycle, CDO Nepal established the Day Care Center in 2007 as a sustainable intervention to protect children, provide them with education and nutrition, and empower families.

What We Provide

The Day Care Center provides a safe, nurturing space where children receive:
  • Quality Care: A secure environment that protects children from hazardous surroundings.
  • Nutrition: Daily meals to combat malnutrition and support healthy growth.
  • Early Education: Foundational learning opportunities that prepare children for school and lifelong success.

Our Vision

We envision a future where every child in Nepal’s brick kiln communities begins life with safety, dignity, and opportunity. The Day Care Center model is more than a protective space—it is a catalyst for transformation.

Empowering Families

By ensuring children are cared for, parents—especially mothers—gain the freedom to focus on work and livelihood activities. This not only strengthens household income but also promotes gender equity and community resilience.

A Sustainable Model:

Over time, the Day Care Center has evolved into a comprehensive early childhood development model, integrated with broader initiatives in:
  • Health
  • Nutrition
  • Education
  • Child Protection
This holistic approach ensures that children thrive, families prosper, and communities transform.

Our Journey:

  • 2007: Began with 40 children, offering a protective space away from hazardous kiln environments.
  • By 2024: Over 500 children served through the center, receiving care, nutrition, and early education.
  • Education Pathways: Acts as a bridge from brick kilns to formal schooling, providing scholarships and vocational training support.
  • 2026 and Beyond: Recognized as a model for sustainable early childhood development, inspiring replication across communities.

Guiding Principles

  • Safety First: Every child deserves a secure environment free from harm.
  • Healthy Growth: Nutrition and care lay the foundation for lifelong wellbeing.
  • Learning Opportunities: Early education opens doors to formal schooling and future success.
  • Family Empowerment: Supporting parents, especially mothers, strengthens livelihoods and promotes gender equity.
Together, we are building a future where every child has a safe start, every mother has the opportunity to thrive, and every community can break free from cycles of vulnerability.
  • nutrition among children under five in the project area.
  • Reduced malnutrition-related illnesses and improved caregiver awareness.
  • Provide non formal education and make them able to get admission informal school in different classes according  to their ages.
  • Strengthened child protection mechanisms and reduced exposure to hazardous work.
  • Improved cognitive, social, and communication skills.
Over 500 children currently receiving continuous care and support.

Looking Forward

  • Expand the Day Care Center model to additional brick kiln communities.
  • Strengthen targeted nutrition programs.
  • Build stronger linkages with formal schools to ensure smooth transitions and long-term success.
